Today, I had a series of productive meetings in Nairobi to address critical electrification issues affecting Emgwen Constituency. In my meeting with Dr. Rose Mkalama, CEO of REREC, we focused on several key projects: 1. Extension of the Arwos – Kaboch Electrification Project: We discussed the need to connect 15 isolated households that were not reached. The cost estimates for extending the project, which includes installing a new transformer, are complete. The next step will be the design phase. 2. Addressing Alleged Misconduct: I raised concerns about alleged misconduct and malpractice by the contractor and supervisor in the Arwos – Kaboch project, specifically regarding reported demands for bribes to connect households beyond the 600-meter transformer radius. 3. Kapchumba Electrification Project: Concerns were highlighted regarding substandard and incomplete work by the contractor. This issue will be closely monitored to ensure the project meets required standards. 4. Wayleave Issues in Kapsean: We discussed resolving the wayleave issues in the Kapsean Electrification Project, which are delaying the connection of 18 pending households. 5. Brightstar Academy – Kiprambu Electrification Project: I advocated for the inclusion of 34 households that were reportedly left out. A surveyor will visit the site within the week to assess the situation. We also focused on the need for metering pending households and ensuring swift completion and commissioning of the project. 6. Funding for Key Projects: I emphasized the urgent need to secure funding and resume implementation of the Kamurguiywo, Lower Kaplonyo, and Cheber electrification projects. These projects, initially funded by the Arab Bank for Economic Development (BADEA), were halted after funding was withdrawn. They are now a top priority and will be funded and assigned a new contractor. 7. Pipeline Projects: We also reviewed upcoming projects that will benefit our constituency. Later, I also met with Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror, MD & CEO of KPLC, to discuss additional pressing matters: 1. Resumption of the Kabore Electrification Project: We discussed the stalled project, which is pending the resolution of contractual issues currently in court. 2. Kapsabet Girls Street Light Project: I requested the installation of additional street lights in Kapsabet Girls and along the Kapsabet Girls Irimis Road as part of the ongoing street lighting project. 3. Unexplained Disconnection of Households in Kaptendon: I addressed the concerns regarding the sudden disconnection of multiple households, which will be investigated and resolved. 4. Expediting Metering for Ongoing Projects: We emphasized the importance of speeding up the metering process across ongoing electrification projects in the constituency. These discussions were focused on ensuring that the needs of our community are met efficiently and effectively. I am committed to seeing these projects through to completion, and I will continue to advocate for the swift resolution of these issues.
